One Less Gun: BPD Gang Unit Officers Arrest Known Suspect Carrying Loaded Firearm in South Boston

At about 6:05 PM on Friday, July 28, 2017, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 24 Gavin Way in South Boston. The officers were on directed patrol when they observed Cody Urban, 20, of South Boston, who was known to them due to numerous past interactions and approached to speak with him. Upon seeing the officers, the suspect quickly passed a bag that he had been carrying to an individual who was walking next to him. When asked about the bag and its contents, the suspect immediately appeared to become nervous. The officers then performed a pat frisk which led to the recovery of a loaded .40 caliber Springfield Armory XD handgun from inside the bag which was later determined to have been reported stolen out of Mashpee, Massachusetts. The suspect was placed in custody without incident. The second subject was questioned on scene and released. The suspect will appear in South Boston District Court on numerous charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device and Armed Career Criminal.
