At about 6:10 PM on Tuesday August 15, 2017, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) made an onsite firearm arrest after performing a traffic stop in the area of Malcom X Boulevard and Roxbury Street. The officers had pulled over a motor vehicle for an equipment violation and were approaching to speak with the operator when a passenger, later identified as Kaynan Yassin, 21, of Quincy, suddenly exited the car and began to walk away. The officers stopped the suspect and performed a pat frisk which led to the recovery of a loaded .380 caliber Taurus PT738 handgun from the suspects pants pocket. Officers placed the suspect in custody without incident and later recovered approximately five ounces of marijuana packaged for sale from inside a backpack the suspect had been carrying.

The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs.
