ONE LESS GUN: BPD Officers Arrest Two Suspects on Gun-Related Charges in Dorchester: At about 3:21pm, on Sunday, August 20, 2017, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force were on patrol in the area of Hancock Street and Uphams Ave in Dorchester when officers observed an individual approach a motor vehicle and pass off what appeared to be a firearm to the operator of the vehicle. In an effort to further investigate and better understand their observations, officers activated their lights and sirens and stopped the motor vehicle. With the vehicle stopped and believing that the operator to be in possession of a firearm, officers promptly instructed the operator to place his hands outside the driver’s side window. As the operator complied with the officer’s commands, officers quickly approached the vehicle and observed a firearm (see photo) resting on the suspect’s lap. Officers immediately confiscated the firearm and placed the suspect under arrest. Officers arrested Shakeem Day, 25, of Mattapan and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way. Additionally, officers were able to locate and charge the individual originally seen in possession of the gun. Officers arrested a 17-year-old male from Roxbury and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.
