At about 2:17 AM on Sunday, August 20, 2017, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 274 Tremont Street. Upon arrival, officers observed two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals, where the first, a 21-year-old male, was deemed to have non-life-threatening injuries, and the second, identified as 28-year-old Michael Miranda of Dorchester, later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
As a result of an extensive ongoing investigation into the incident, Boston Police Homicide detectives were able to identify 29-year-old Kiewann Watson of Mattapan as the person who shot both victims, ultimately killing Miranda. Detectives applied for and received a warrant for Watson's arrest. Today, Thursday, August 24, 2017, the Boston Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit, was able to locate and arrest Watson without incident in the area of Norfolk Ave, Mattapan.
Said Commissioner Evans, "I commend my investigators who worked tirelessly to identify and arrest this individual just four days after the death of Michael Miranda. There is no place for senseless gun violence on our streets. I hope the news of this arrest sends a message to those who engage in gun violence that we will get you, and more importantly, may it bring some level of comfort to both victim's families."
Watson is expected to arraigned tomorrow in Dorchester Court charged with Murder, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
