BPD officers continue to demonstrate their commitment to violence prevention as evidenced by the seven guns taken off the streets in the last forty-eight hours leading into what has historically been a violent weekend in the City of Boston.

Earlier today, at about 2:37 AM on Saturday, August 26, 2017, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) made an onsite firearm arrest after performing a traffic stop in the area of Hillsboro Street in Dorchester. Officers had stopped a motor vehicle for an equipment violation and were approaching to speak with the driver when they observed the front seat passenger, later identified as Chonn Pressey, 24, of Boston, quickly throw an object into the rear passenger area of the car. Using their flashlights, the officers illuminated the rear floor area and observed a firearm in plain sight. The officers quickly opened the rear door and secured the weapon which was later determined to be a loaded 9mm Ruger P89 handgun. The suspect was then placed in custody without incident. The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
