One Less Gun: BPD Officers Recover Loaded Firearm From Juvenile Suspect at 2017 Caribbean Festival

At about 5:49 PM on Saturday, August 26, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest of a juvenile suspect while on patrol at the 2017 Caribbean Festival in the area of 606 Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester. Officers had reason to believe that the suspect, later identified as a 16-year-old male from Roxbury, was armed with a firearm and were performing a pat frisk when a violent struggle ensued. Officers were able to place the suspect in custody at which time they safely recovered a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson M&P Shield handgun from the waistband of his pants. One officer was injured during the arrest and has since been released from an area hospital after receiving treatment. The suspect will appear in Roxbury Juvenile Court on charges of Delinquent to Wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
