One Less Gun: Officers Recover Two Illegal Firearms from Motor Vehicle & Arrest Three Suspects in Mattapan

At about 2:15 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2017, members of the District B-3 (Mattpan) Neighborhood Drug Control Unit were conducting an investigation in the Mattapan Square area that led to the recovery of two illegal firearms and the arrest of three suspects. During the course of their surveillance, the officers observed a motor vehicle operating with a Rhode Island temporary paper registration plate, which are not recognized as valid registration plates in Massachusetts. Officers conducted a stop of the motor vehicle during which two of the three occupants fled from the officers on foot.  After a brief struggle, the two suspects and the remaining occupant were apprehended. It was at this time that officers observed a loaded black Dan Wesson .357 Magnum revolver in plain view on the floor of the front passenger side. A second loaded silver Kimber .45 caliber pistol was located under the front driver’s seat. None of the occupants could produce a License to Carry, and further investigation revealed that the Kimber pistol had been reported stolen out of Rhode Island in 2015.

Officers arrested all three suspects, 22-year-old Naquan Mahone of Mattapan, 27-year-old Josiah Stirling of West Roxbury, and 21-year-old Andre Mahone of Mattapan, and charged them with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Receiving Stolen Property over $250 (Firearm). Stirling will be additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd & Subsequent Offense)  and Naquan Mahone additionally charged with Operating an Unregistered/Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Attaching Plates.
