One Less Gun: Four Suspects in Custody and Two Loaded Firearms Recovered Following Foot Pursuit in South Boston

Earlier today, at about 2:12 AM on Friday September 1, 2017, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) arrested two suspects on firearm related charges and two others for trespassing after responding to a call for a person with a gun in the area of 22 Gavin Way in South Boston. Officers were advised that four individuals had been observed loitering in the area and that two of them appeared to be armed with handguns. Officers quickly arrived on scene and stopped a group that matched the given description sitting on the steps of the building. When the officers attempted to perform a pat frisk on one of the individuals, later identified as a 15-year-old male from South Boston, he immediately took off running towards Moakley Park. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was placed in custody without further incident at which time officers were able to safely recover a loaded .45 caliber Springfield Armory handgun which the suspect had discarded as he fled. When the foot chase began, the other suspects took the opportunity to flee but were later located by additional responding units. One suspect, later identified as Yusuf Mohamed, 18, of South Boston, was found hiding in the stairwell on the fourth floor of 22 Gavin Way. Officers then performed a pat frisk which led to the recovery of a loaded .45 caliber Colt Combat Commander handgun from inside the waistband of the suspect’s pants at which time he was placed in custody without incident. The other two suspects, later identified as Jaudy Tejada DeJesus, 19, of South Boston and a 17-year-old male from South Boston, were located about fifteen minutes later in the second story stairwell inside 451 O’Callahan Way where they were both placed in custody without incident for Trespassing. All four suspects will appear in South Boston District Court for arraignment. The 15-year-old male will be charged with Delinquent to Wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Yusuf Mohamed will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. The 17-year-old male will be charged with Delinquent to Wit: Trespassing and Jaudy Tejada will be charged with Trespassing.
