At about 4:30 PM on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, an on-duty Boston Police Officer was exiting a police facility in Roxbury when he was approached by Henry Claiborne, 37, of Roxbury, who asked to speak with the officer. When the officer stopped to talk to Claiborne, he suddenly began striking the officer without warning or provocation, at which time a violent struggle ensued, resulting in injuries to the officer which were not considered serious in nature. The suspect was able to initially break away from the officer but was quickly placed in custody in the area of 23 Southwood Street after a brief foot pursuit. The suspect has since been arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer (injuries) and Resisting Arrest. The injured officer was transported to an area hospital and later released after receiving treatment.
