And now for another installment of "You Can't Make This Stuff Up..."

At about 2:20 PM on Monday, January 15, 2018, officers from District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a larceny in progress in the area of Rossmore Road.

While en route, officers were informed that the caller observed a male steal a package from a residence on Rossmore. The witness gave a description of a male who opened the package, took the contents from inside, and left the box. Additional units in the area observed a male matching the suspect description walking away from 28 Rossmore toward Washington Street. When officers approached the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Sadiel Tapia of Boston, he began to encourage bystanders to video tape the interaction, stating, “I got nothing on me, I got nothing on me. You are always harassing me.” The officers explained that they were stopping him because he matched the description of a person stealing a package, and Tapia blurted out, “I put it back. I didn’t even take it.” As Mr. Tapia raised his arms up as if to indicate he didn’t have anything, a clear plastic bag containing the package’s contents fell from the back side of Mr. Tapia’s jacket. Officers observed the female who had been taping with her cell phone audibly sigh, put her phone in her pocket, and walk away. Tapia was positively identified as the suspect of the larceny, and officers recovered the stolen item. Tapia was placed under arrest and charged with Larceny from a Building.
