At about 12:04 AM on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol when they observed a fight involving several individuals in the area of 238 Columbia Road. When officers approached to investigate, they observed a male who was involved begin to move away from the group. A second party pointed at the male and stated that he had guns. One of the officers began to follow the male who had already walked onto Devon Street and disappeared from view. The officer ran to catch up and upon regaining sight of the male, observed him sprinting up the sidewalk with both of his hands pinned to the front of his body as if holding an object in place. The officer then observed the male run behind a parked car and bend down. At this time the officer heard what sounded like a metal object hitting the ground. The suspect then hustled back over to the sidewalk where the officer was standing. The officer gave the suspect commands to show his hands and get on the ground, but the suspect ignored him and ran back behind the vehicle, bending down for a second time. The officer gave additional commands before the suspect emerged from behind the vehicle and complied. The suspect was handcuffed for officer safety before a sweep of the area revealed two firearms on the ground behind the parked vehicle. Officers processed and recovered both firearms—one loaded Makarov 9mm handgun and one loaded Kel-Tec 9mm handgun with a high capacity magazine. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Sonny Deloatch of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2 counts), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition (2 counts, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm (2 counts), Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd and Subsequent), and Armed Career Criminal Level 2.

DeLoatch will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
