ONE LESS GUN: BPD Officers Arrest Juvenile Male on Gun-Related Charges in South Boston

At about 2:59am on Thursday, February 22, 2018, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) were on patrol in the area of Rev. Burke and Mercer Streets when they observed an individual, described as a light-skinned Hispanic male in dark clothing, walking in a hurried manner towards Columbia Road. As officers approached, the individual, upon seeing them, gave a wide-eyed look and appeared to be surprised by their presence. Moreover, the individual quickly grabbed for an object in his waist area, quickened his pace and changed his direction in an effort to avoid the officers. Based on the officers’ training and experience, the suspect’s behavior was consistent and indicative of an individual possibly in possession of a weapon. When officers exited their cruiser, the suspect, now clutching at an object in his waist area, took off running. After a lengthy foot pursuit, officers were able to catch up to and corner the suspect who was found hiding under a deck in the rear of 65 Gates Street. A search of the suspect for any weapons proved unsuccessful. However, when officers retraced the steps taken during the foot pursuit, officers were able to locate and recover a black-colored firearm. When asked if the gun belonged to him, the suspect confirmed that it did.

Officers arrested a 17-year-old juvenile male and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
