At about 10:50 PM on Monday, February 26, 2018, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) were on patrol in the area of Central Street and McKinley Square due to recent drug and firearm related incidents in the area, when officers observed three males walking across Central Street. Officers new one of the males, 24-year-old Dana Michael Loder of Boston, from past arrests and encounters and had recently received information that he may illegally be in possession of a firearm. The officers approached the males, but Loder attempted to quickly walk away, while the other two individuals stayed to speak to officers. The officers caught up to Loder and, given their knowledge of Loder and the area, attempted to conduct a pat frisk for officer safety. Loder resisted the officers by stiffening his arms and attempting to put his phone, which he was holding in his hand, in his jacket pocket. Officers struggled to continue the frisk and finally had to secure Loder in handcuffs. Once secured, the officers frisked the pocket that Loder continually reached for and immediately felt a hard metal object that they believed to be a firearm. Officers recovered a loaded Rohm RG10 .22 caliber firearm from Loder’s upper right jacket pocket. Officers arrested Loder and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
