One Less Gun: Officers Recover Two Firearms, Arrest Three Suspects Only Hours Apart in Two Separate Overnight Incidents

INCIDENT #1: At about 11:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2018, an officer from District C-11 (Dorchester) informed 911 dispatch that he just witnessed shots fired in the area of American Legion Highway and Canterbury Street. The officer reported while traveling behind a silver Toyota SUV, he heard shots fired and observed smoke come from the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The officer requested additional units and made a stop of the vehicle in the area of 108 Floyd Street. Once stopped, the front seat passenger fled on foot, while the operator and a second passenger remained in the vehicle. Officers gave chase and apprehended the fleeing suspect a short distance away. Officers with the vehicle ordered the two remaining occupants from the car and did a protective sweep of the passenger compartment, locating a black ACC International Intrac 9mm firearm in the center console. Upon further investigation, officers also located ballistic evidence in the area of American Legion Highway and Canterbury Street. Officers arrested the front seat passenger, identified as 26-year-old Wellington Gonzalez of Boston, and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling. Gonzalez will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court. The additional two individuals were identified and released.


INCIDENT #2: At about 2:30 AM on Friday, February 9, 2018, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted a stop of two known individuals during an ongoing and active gang and firearm related investigation in the area of 36 Fessenden Street. As a result of the stop, officers recovered a loaded .40 caliber Glock Model 22 with a large capacity feeding device, as well as three plastic bags containing a tan powder believed to be heroin and one plastic bag containing a white powder believed to be cocaine. Officers arrested the suspects, 18-year-old Woldson Noel of Mattapan and 20-year-old Brandy Soto-Lara of Dorchester. Noel and Soto-Lara are charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. Soto-Lara is additionally charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A Drugs (Heroin) and Possession of Class B Drugs (Cocaine). Both will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
