BPD Officers Roll Out Red Carpet at St. Patrick’s Day Parade for Local 11-Year-Old Boy Battling Brain Tumor: Without a doubt, one of the biggest highlights from this year’s St. Patrick's Day Parade involved the story of 11-year-old Gavin McCarthy. In fact, the men and women of the BPD were honored and humbled to have Gavin, in his official capacity as Junior BPD Officer, front and center riding high atop the BPD SWAT Truck, the Bear, during this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston. For those not familiar with Gavin's story, he's a dynamite kid battling a brain tumor. As you can well imagine, all of our officers, from Commissioner Evans on down, are behind Gavin, rooting for him and supporting him as he tackles the challenge before him. Said one of the officers who met Gavin at this year’s parade, "You could tell right away that Gavin's a special kid and, if he ever decides to become a police officer, we'd be lucky to have him and his level of strength and toughness on our department." In addition to the above, members of the BPD’s Motorcycle Unit showcased their support for Gavin by affixing #GavinStrong signs to all of their motorcycles.
