On February 27, 2018. Officer Hanley from District E-18 (Hyde Park) responded to a radio call for an armed carjacking in progress in the area of Fairmount Avenue and Truman Parkway. Officer Hanley was approached by the victim who directed him to the area where the carjackers were occupying his stolen vehicle. Officer Hanley slowly approached the vehicle with his cruiser lights off and observed the three armed carjackers flee on foot.

Officer Hanley pursued one of the suspects on foot and directed responding units to the perimeter, advising them exactly where to position themselves.

Officer Hanley apprehended one of the suspects without incident. Subsequent actions by Boston Police resulted in the recovery of several pounds of marijuana, a replica handgun and a knife used in the crime. The three identified suspects are believed to be responsible for a series of commercial and street level armed robberies in the greater Boston area over the last four months that resulted in injury to several victims, as well as thousands of dollars stolen. Officer Hanley’s actions will be crucial to a successful prosecution of the three suspects for these crimes.

For his immediate response and brave actions, Officer Hanley is hereby awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation.
