One Less Gun: BPD ‘Gang Unit’ Arrests Suspect Armed with Loaded Firearm During Investigation in Roxbury

At about 8:48 PM on Friday, March 23, 2018, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force placed a suspect in custody on firearm related charges as part of an investigation in the area of 489 Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury. The officers located and stopped the suspect, Isaiah Bates, 22, of Dorchester, and performed a pat frisk which led to the recovery of a loaded 9mm Bryco Arms Jennings Model Nine. He was then placed in custody without incident. Officers later determined that the firearm had been previously been reported stolen in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The suspect will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
