Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Investigators Apprehend Suspect in Connection to Arson of Restaurant in Mattapan

 

At about 2:29 AM on Friday, December 15, 2017, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to 663 Morton Street for a radio call for an active fire at Flames Restaurant. On arrival, officers observed heavy smoke coming from the building as members of the Boston Fire Department worked to extinguish the fire. No arrests were made at the time of the incident. 

As a result of a thorough investigation by members of the Fire Investigation Unit, comprised of Boston Police detectives and Boston Fire investigators, a suspect has now been identified, located and apprehended. Earlier today, on Monday March 26, 2018, Byron Anthony Hewitt, 45, of Boston, was placed in custody without incident and will be charged with Burning a Building in Dorchester District Court.
