Commissioner Evans Named Honorary Grand Marshall at this year’s Greek Independence Day Parade: The men and women of the BPD were once again honored to keep everybody safe during the 24th Annual Greek Independence Day Parade held earlier today, Sunday, April 22, 2018 in Boston. The parade commemorates Greece’s march to freedom which began close to 200 years ago on March 25, 1821. This year, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans was selected to be one of the parade’s Honorary Grand Marshals.  In the enclosed photo, Commissioner Evans is seen marching with Mike Dukakis, former Governor of Massachusetts and, interestingly enough, just the second Greek-American governor in U.S. history. Said Commissioner Evans, “I was most certainly honored and humbled to be named an Honorary Grand Marshall at this year’s parade. We’re fortunate to have a strong, vibrant Greek community in our city and I was flattered to be included in today’s celebration.”
