At about 8:03 PM on Sunday, May 6, 2018, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) responded to a call for an armed robbery at the CVS store located at 400 Tremont Street in Boston. On arrival, officers met with an elderly female victim who stated that while shopping inside the store she had been approached from behind by a female suspect who pushed her to the ground and stole her purse. The suspect then fled the store on foot. A Good Samaritan was able to locate and recover the stolen purse a short distance away on the Arlington Street overpass bridge. Officers safely recovered a brown-handled knife which had been discarded by the suspect directly in front of the store.
A short time later, while officers and detectives were on scene continuing their investigation, the suspect returned to the scene of the crime in an attempt to locate her own cell phone which she had apparently dropped during the incident. The suspect, now identified as Mary Gallas, 37, of Boston, was placed in custody without incident. The suspect’s cell phone was located on scene by the officers. The suspect will appear in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Armed Robbery (Victim Over 60 Years of Age) and Assault and Battery (Victim Over 60 Years of Age).
