At about 3:35 PM on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering in progress in the area of 4 Pelham Street in the South End. While officers were en-route to the location, BPD Operations provided officers with a suspect description and advised officers that the suspect was getting onto a Silver Line MBTA bus in the area of Washington Street and Union Park Street.

Officers canvassed the area in search of the suspect and were advised by a resident that he heard the sound of glass breaking in the rear of his residence and observed the suspect flee on foot.  Officers were notified that there was video of the suspect on a nearby surveillance camera.

Officers in the area observed MBTA Bus #1276 pulled to the side of the road, and once they boarded, observed an individual matching the specific description of the suspect provided by the caller and operations. The suspect, 23-year-old Joseph Oliveira of Brighton, was placed under arrest and charged with Breaking and Entering.  During the booking process at District D-4 (South End), the suspect was found to be in possession of a Bank of America Visa Debit Card which belonged to the victim of a separate stolen wallet incident in the South End area.  Oliveira was additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property and will be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
