Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Quick Response by BPD Officers Leads to Arrest after Suspect Brandishes a Hypodermic Needle as a Weapon during a Robbery in the South End

At about 9:30 PM on Sunday, June 24, 2018, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) arrested Mark Mazzone, 30, of Winthrop, after responding to a call for an armed robbery in the rear of 29 East Springfield Street. During the incident, Mazzone brandished a hypodermic needle and threatened to stab an adult male victim while demanding money. Mazzone fled the area on foot after the victim handed him cash from his wallet. A short time later, responding officers stopped Mazzone, who matched the description given by the victim, in the area of 90 Southampton Street and placed him in custody after he was positively identified. Officers then recovered the hypodermic needle from the Mazzone’s right pants pocket along with the stolen currency. Mazzone will appear in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Armed Robbery, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon and Threats.
