At about 12:45 PM on Monday, June 25, 2018, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 24 Bishop Joe L. Smith Way. Upon arrival, the officers observed several vehicles with ballistic damage and were informed by witnesses that a male had exited a vehicle and shot toward a group of people. One male suffered non-life-threatening injuries and transported himself to an area hospital.

Further investigation revealed that a suspect wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants exited the passenger side of an older model red sedan, hunch down, then fire multiple shots into a group of people before reentering the vehicle and fleeing. Officers and detectives were able to track the vehicle back to an address on Cunningham Street, where both the operator and the passenger were observed exiting the vehicle and entering a residence. Several hours later, officers were able to conduct a motor vehicle stop of both the operator and passenger, as well as three additional males, in a gray motor vehicle in the area of Dudley and East Cottage Streets. Officers ordered all five occupants, including the operator, 26-year-old Jamaal Reese of Marblehead, and the backseat passenger, 26-year-old Tre A. Lankford of Winthrop, out of the car, and as a result of further investigation, officers were able to secure both the red sedan and the residence on Cunningham Street and obtain a search warrant.

Upon receiving and executing the search warrants, officers recovered two firearms and a bag of loose ammunition.

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested Reese and Lankford for firearm related charges. Lankford was additionally charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, to wit; Gun.
