BPD Officers Arrest Suspect Wanted in Connection to Attempted Unarmed Bank Robbery in Downtown Boston: At about 12:07 PM on Monday, June 4, 2018, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a bank robbery in progress at the TD Bank located 24 Winter Street in Boston. On arrival, officers spoke with the bank manager who stated that the suspect, described as a black male wearing gray-hooded sweatshirt and blue shorts, entered the bank and passed a note demanding money to one of the tellers. When the teller saw the note, she alerted the bank’s in-house security guard. When the security guard approached the suspect, the suspect exited the bank.

While reviewing the bank’s security surveillance video of the suspect, officers recognized the suspect from previous encounters. A search of an area the suspect was known to frequent enabled officers to locate and apprehend the individual. Upon locating the suspect, officers promptly noted that the suspect appeared to be wearing the same clothes he was wearing as seen on the bank’s security surveillance video, and the suspect was positively identified.

Officers and members of the Bank Robbery Task Force arrested Edward Tarencz, 30, of Boston and charged him with Unarmed Bank Robbery.
