BPD in the Community: This Year's G3 Basketball Summer Summit a Huge Success!

Today, Thursday, July 12, 2018, wrapped up the third year of the G3 Basketball Summer Summit, a week-long camp that allows female officers and young women in the community to get to know each other in an approachable setting through basketball—a game that is known for building teamwork and relationships, regardless of where you’re from or what you do.

“G3” stands for “Getting Girls in the Game,” which of course applies to basketball, but here at the BPD, it also means encouraging young women to be involved in life, as well as sports. Sixteen female officers from all over the city, and some with merely three months on the job, came out all week to be coaches, mentors, and role models for the girls enrolled in the G3 clinic. All week through basketball, these officers taught and encouraged the girls to have confidence and develop some of the tools they need to become successful in life—teamwork, determination, hard work, desire, and confidence.

The week culminated on today with a final basketball game, and a great time was had by all. Our officers were honored to play with and get to know a very talented group of young ladies. We look forward to playing again next summer!
