One Less Gun: Officers Recover One Firearm, Arrest One Suspect after Call for a Fight in Roxbury

At about 3:25 AM on Sunday, July 8, 2018, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a fight in the area of 25 Humphreys Place, Dorchester.

Upon arrival, officers heard arguing in the rear of the above address. When they walked down the driveway to the rear of the residence to investigate further, they used their flashlights to illuminate their path. At that time the officers observed a male, later identified as 29-year-old Peter Carvalho of Dorchester, walking toward them. One of the officers shined his flashlight at Carvalho and observed his shirt tucked in and the shape of a firearm in Carvalho’s his waistband. The officer immediately gave Carvalho verbal commands to show his hands, but Carvalho grabbed for the item in his waist and began to run to the rear of the house. The officers pursued Carvalho on foot and, during the chase, observed Carvalho remove the firearm from his waist and throw it in the rear yard of 20 Harrow Street. Officers were finally able to catch up to Carvalho and, after a brief struggle and with assistance from additional responding units, were able to place Carvalho in handcuffs. When Carvalho could not produce a license to carry, officers arrested him and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Resisting Arrest. Carvalho will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. Officers recovered and seized the loaded 9mm Canik 55 firearm from where it was discarded in the rear of 20 Harrow Street.
