Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Two Suspects in Custody Following Two Separate Breaking and Entering Incidents in One Day

Incident #1: At 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, officers assigned to District A-7 (East Boston) responded to a call for a Breaking and Entering in progress in the area of Border Street in East Boston. Upon arrival officers spoke with multiple witnesses who stated a male wearing a red t-shirt and shorts was seen entering a residence on Border Street, exit carrying a plastic bag, and then changing into a grey t-shirt at a nearby construction site. Officers were informed by witnesses that the male was "seen around and goes by the name of 'Chris'". Additionally, witnesses advised officers of a backpack, belonging to the male, left inside the construction site and a pry bar missing from the same area the backpack was left in. Witnesses saw the male exit the construction site and walk "very quickly" on Lexington Street towards Meridian Street. After officers were advised of the male's direction of flight, officers canvassed the nearby intersections. At the intersection of Lexington and Meridian Streets officers observed a male in a grey t-shirt and blue shorts carrying a plastic bag with a visible red t-shirt inside. The Officers approached the male and asked his name, to which he replied "Chris". After further canvassing of the scene, officer observed pry marks on the side of the window of the residence, and a blue pry bar left in the vicinity.

The suspect Christopher Sullo, 45, of Nahant was placed under arrest without incident. Sullo will be charged with Attempted Burglary, Larceny, Possession of Burglarious Tools and Trespassing. Sullo will be arraigned in East Boston District Court.

Incident #2: At 11:42 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a call for a Breaking and Entering in the area of Kingbird Road in Mattapan. Upon arrival, officers gained access to surveillance video and observed a male breaking into an office in the building and removing a safe. After collecting additional information officers were able to identify the suspect in the surveillance video, and discover his place of residence. The suspect Vernon Purvis, 57, of Boston was located, recognized from the surveillance video and placed under arrest without incident. Davis will be charged with Burglary and Forced Entry. Purvis will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
