Officers Arrest One, Recover Drugs and Firearm in Dorchester

At about 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, members of the District B-3 (Mattapan) Drug Control Unit made and onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of Geneva Avenue and Park Street in Dorchester. As part of an ongoing drug investigation, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of the above location. While speaking to the operator, officers observed the male to appear extremely nervous during their interaction and while looking for his registration inside of the glove compartment. Officers asked the male to step out of the vehicle to which he complied. At this time, officers observed the handle of a firearm inside of the suspect’s coat pocket. Officers recovered a black Lorcin 380 semi-automatic firearm loaded with six rounds of live ammunition. Further investigation led to the discovery of twelve individual plastic bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana as well as an undisclosed amount of US Currency. 

Officers arrested Christopher Chavis, 32-years-old, of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs. Chavis is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
