WANN-A-BE CABBIE ARRESTED IN ROXBURYAt about 7:56 am, on Thursday, May 3, 2007, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) observed an individual attempting to provide illegal transportation in the area of 142 Dudley Street. Officers approached the vehicle in question and observed that the vehicle lacked any of external markings or lettering consistent with a cab service. Officers also observed that the vehicle did not have the required Hackney license plate. When officers spoke to the suspect, he told officers that it was okay for him to pick up fares because he was a retired cab driver. Officers arrested Pierre Joseph, 71, of Dorchester, and charged him with Providing an Illegal Vehicle for Hire. GUN ARREST MADE IN ROXBURY At about 6:30pm, on Thursday, May 3, 2007, officers from the Boston Police Mountain Bike Unit were patrolling Washington Park in the area of District B-2 (Roxbury). While riding through the park, officers observed a group of kids hanging out. Upon seeing the officers, one of the kids began walking away at a quick pace. As the suspect was walking away, officers observed the suspect clutching at something in his waist. According to the officers, the suspect’s movements were consistent with someone attempting to conceal a weapon. As the suspect continued to exit the area, officers observed the suspect continually and quickly look back over his shoulder. Officers then observed the suspect run into a backyard. When they finally caught up to him, officers asked the suspect why he ran. To which, the suspect replied, “I had some weed on me.” Believing that the suspect may have ditched the firearm, officers searched the immediate area. Officers then recovered a semiautomatic (9mm) firearm. Officers arrested Terrell Nicholas, 21, of Mattapan, and charged him with Trespassing and the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. MACHETE RECOVERED IN EAST BOSTON At about 6:39pm, on Thursday, May 3, 2007, officers from District A-7 (East Boston) observed a suspicious looking individual in the area of 260 Bennington Street. Officers observed what appeared to be a weapon (possibly a knife) protruding from the suspect’s waist area. As a result, officers approached the suspect and recovered a machete (2 feet in length). Officers then arrested Alexis Melendez, 24, of Saugus, and charged him with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.
