OFFICERS LOCATE FIREARM ... FOUR ARRESTED AND CHARGEDOn Friday, April 17, 2009, at approximately 2:22am, Officers assigned to Area A-1 (Downtown), responded to a fight-taking place outside of Club Mantra on Washington Street. While en-route, Officers received updated information that one of the individuals was in a parking lot off of Washington Street. Officers located an individual, fitting the description given, with facial injuries. EMS was requested and treated the suspect. While doing so, three other individuals approached officers, inquiring as to the suspects’ status. Officers believed these men were the people involved in the fight at Club Mantra. Officers recognized one of the suspects as being involved in previous gun-related incidents in the past. Officers also learned of a motor vehicle these men were utilizing after they “pointed it out” to them. Based on the knowledge the officers possessed of these individuals, it was decided to have an explosive detection K9 respond to the scene. Boston Police K9 “Roo” responded and conducted a cursory search of the parking lot and outside of the suspect’s vehicle. “Roo” alerted to the vehicle by showing “extreme interest”. Consent was then given to officers to search the interior of the vehicle. From within the vehicle, a loaded 9mm Luger firearm and four (4) plastic bags of Marijuana were located. Officers arrested Roy Brown, 24 of Boston, Nackian Kennedy, 23 of Boston, Anthony Kennedy, 25 of Brockton and Joshua Thompson, 26 of Boston on the charges of Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Illegal Possession of Ammunition and Illegal Possession of a Class D Substance (Marijuana). DETAIL OFFICER AIDS IN THE ARREST OF A PURSE GRABBER IN THE SOUTH END At about 10:30am, on Thursday, April 16, 2009, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a larceny in progress in the area of 288 Newbury Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that she had left or hung her purse on the back of her chair inside the Expresso Royale. While sitting in her chair, the victim says she observed a black male (approximately 6'ft tall, about 40 years of age, wearing a brown vest, tan pants) exit the store while carrying her beige purse. Victim says she then observed the suspect enter a motor vehicle and flee the scene. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect and the suspect’s motor vehicle over the police radio. In short time, an officer performing a paid detail, in the area of Mass Ave and Washington Street, located the suspect’s motor vehicle parked illegally in a bus stop. As the detail officer was approaching the car, the officer observed the suspect rummaging through a bag. Upon reaching the motor vehicle, the officer asked the suspect to produce a license and registration. Officer further observed that the suspect appeared to be nervous due to the fact that his hands were shaking. Officer then observed a beige purse and personal papers strewn about the front seat of the motor vehicle. The purse matched the description of the one belonging to the victim. Upon closer inspection of the papers and the purse, officers were able to determine that the purse belonged to the victim. After the suspect was positively identified by the victim, officers arrested Hakim Williams, 50, of Boston and charged him with Larceny and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License.
