Boston Police Arrest Two Suspects and Recover Two Firearms After Responding to Shots Fired Call in the South End

At about 8:13pm, on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a call for shots fired in the area of West Newton Street & Shawmut Avenue.

Witnesses on scene reported hearing shots fired and observed a light colored SUV (possibly a Toyota ) fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. A short time later, Longwood Security personnel flagged down officers and reported seeing a vehicle matching the description in the area of 945 Parker Street.  The security officers also reported a Hispanic male wearing dark clothing exited the passenger side of the vehicle. Officers responded and observed two females inside the SUV. Officers approached the vehicle and informed the female operator  her vehicle was wanted in connection with an incident involving shots fired. Upon approach, officers observed a black-colored firearm resting on the floor behind the front passenger seat. Officers immediately instructed both occupants to exit the vehicle.

During a pat frisk of the operator officers recovered a second firearm.

Officers arrested Maria Martinez, 32, of Boston and charged her with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

Officers located and arrested Felix Ortiz, 30, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling.

A female juvenile was identified and released.
