CrimeStopper Tip Leads to Firearm Arrest

At about 5:51pm, on Thursday, December 12, 2013, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) initiated a traffic stop in the area of 301 Warren Street, Roxbury after receiving an CrimeStoppers tip regarding an armed suspect in a motor vehicle in the Roxbury area.

Officers approached the motor vehicle and observed the operator throw his hands in the air and make a quick movement with both arms to his right leg area while his upper body moved left toward the driver's side door. Officers requested the operator's license and registration and immediately identified the driver as the suspect.

Officers told the suspect to keep his hands on the steering wheel and in plain sight. The suspect failed to do this and attempted to place his left hand in his pocket making a quick motion with his right arm toward the passenger side of the vehicle. At this point, officers concerned for their safety and the safety of others, immediately opened the driver's side door and began to remove the suspect from the vehicle.

The suspect attempted to flee and officers gave chase on foot. Officers were able to stop the suspect who became combative and resisted arrest. Once in custody police recovered a loaded firearm from the suspect.

Officers arrested Tarenzo Richardson, 19, of Roxbury, and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Not at Home or Work: Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, No FID Card, Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Resisting Arrest, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, and Armed Career Criminal Level 2 (The Armed Career Criminal charge was determined by the following guilty findings out of Norfolk Superior Court: Armed Robbery, Armed Robbery and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon). Richardson was expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
