Today, Friday, July 12, 2013, members of the Boston Police Cold Case Squad, Crime Lab and Crime Scene Units were on scene at the Puritan Memorial Park in Peabody to exhume the body of Albert DeSalvo, the man notoriously referred to as the Boston Strangler. DeSalvos’s remains were removed and transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner, located on Albany Street in Boston, where the process of extracting a DNA sample will be undertaken in an effort to definitively determine DeSalvo’s connection to the murder of 19 year-old Mary Sullivan. The process is expected to take several days and results could be available sometime late next week at the earliest.
The exhumation was ordered by a Superior Court judge at the request of Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley, Attorney General Martha Coakley and Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis.
