A Less Than Fortunate Good Samaritan Turns in Found Property to Officers

At about 5:44 PM Saturday, September 14, 2013, officers patrolling the area of South Bay Mall at 8 Allstate Road, Dorchester, were flagged down by an unknown male in front of the TJ Maxx Store.  The male stated to officers he found a black backpack that contained a large sum of money and a passport in the front of the store.  Officers took custody of the backpack and its contents.  The Good Samaritan could only provide officers with his name and the address of the shelter where he currently lives.

Officers notified store security at the South Bay Mall about the found property.

Officers inventoried the property at District C-6.  The bag contained $2,400.00 in United States Currency, $39,500.00 in American Express Travelers Cheques, passports and various personal papers.

At about 6:47pm, officers were contacted by an employee from the Best Buy store in South Bay Mall.  A male customer informed the staff he lost his backpack containing a large sum of money.  Officers returned to South Bay Mall and transported the customer to District C-6 (South Boston).  The owner of the bag was positively identified by his passport and the property found by the Good Samaritan was returned to him.
