Police Arrest Male in Connection with Dorchester Fire

At about, 1:41 AM, Saturday, September 07, 2013, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a building fire in the area of 8 Stonehurst Street.

On arrival, officers observed a working fire on the 2nd floor front porch area at 8 Stonehurst Street. The Boston Fire Department was attempting to extinguish the flames while searching for possible victims still trapped inside. Officers observed a victim yelling and pointing at a Ford Expedition SUV color black parked near 20 Stonehurst Street with a male occupant in the front driver's seat. The victim excitedly stated to officers, "He did it!”

Officers observed the suspect was sweating profusely as if he had been recently involved in some type of strenuous activity. The victim stated to officers the suspect was her daughter's father but they were no longer in a relationship.  The victim stated she received several text messages from the suspect attempting to restore their previous relationship.

The victim stated to officers when she arrived home she observed her front door open and the suspect coming out of the premises. The victim told officers she looked up to the building and realize the front porch was on fire.

Officers spoke with witnesses that observed the suspect running away from the direction of the fire.

Arson investigators on scene found evidence lighter fluid was used as an accelerant to start the fire on the second floor front porch.

Troy Poindexter, 35, of Mattapan was arrested for Breaking in Entering Residence (Night) and Arson and will be arraigned at Dorchester District Court on Monday, September 9, 2013.
