Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Boston Police Arrest Marlboro Stealing Thieves from South Boston Gas Station

At about 1:22am, Thursday, January 30, 2014, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) responded to a radio call for a breaking entering in progress at the Gulf Station (57 L Street). Officers were advised from operations the suspects fled the area in a grey motor vehicle.

Officers observed the suspect’s vehicle in the area of E 5th Street and L Street. Officers approached on the passenger side of the motor vehicle and upon opening the passenger door several Marlboro cigarette packs and red gloves fell to the ground. Officers observed a trash bag with several Marlboro cigarette boxes on the passenger seat and floor of the motor vehicle. 

Officers placed the suspects in handcuffs for officer safety without any incident.  Officers observed the suspect that was seated in the passenger seat to be suffering from visible injuries to his left hand.  The suspect declined medical treatment.

Officers observed the front glass door to the gas station damaged and several pieces of medium size rocks near the front door.  Officers observed multiple packs of Marlboro cigarettes near the front door.   Officers also observed a paycheck stub belonging to one of the suspects.

Witnesses stated to officers they observed one of the suspects crawl into the hole in the glass face first and then fled the area in the driver’s side of the motor vehicle.

The males, Mark Powell, 48, of South Boston, and David Sweetser, 46, of South Boston, were arrested for Breaking and Entering a Building; Intent to Commit a Felony and Buying, Receiving or Concealing Stolen Goods.
