Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Two Arrested for Armed Robbery in the area of Jewish War Vets Drive in Roxbury

At about 2:31 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2014 officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of Jewish War Vets Drive, inside of the Franklin Park Golf Course located in Roxbury.

While en route to the area of the above location, officers were provided with the descriptions of three suspects who reportedly robbed the victim while he was walking along a path near the golf course. All three suspects were reported to have fled on foot towards the Shattuck Hospital. Officers searched the area and spoke to the victim who stated that he had dropped someone off at the zoo and then went to take his dog for a walk in the park when he observed the three suspects sitting on bench. As he continued walking, the three suspects began to follow him, eventually catching up and walking next to him. The three suspects then surrounded the victim and pushed him into the brush next to the path. The suspects, brandishing knives, bound both the victim’s hands and feet before taking his possessions and fleeing.

Officers observed three individuals matching the descriptions of the suspects in the area of Chilcott Place in Jamaica Plain. Upon seeing the officers, the three suspects immediately fled. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend two of the suspects in the area of Washington Street and Boylston Street in Jamaica Plain. Officers searched the area for the third suspect to no avail.

Officers arrested 21-year-old Rafael Motas-Pena of Dorchester and a 13-year-old juvenile male of Dorchester. Both are charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Kidnapping, and Armed Robbery.

Boston Police detectives are continuing their efforts to identify the suspects involvement in additional armed robberies that occurred in the area of the Jamaica Pond.
