At about 12:48 AM, on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, officers from District E-18 (Hyde Park) received a radio call for a Breaking and Entering in progress at 305 Cummins Highway, Roslindale.
On arrival, officers were advised that one of the residents from the first floor was attempting to break into a second floor apartment. Officers have responded to this address in the past for incidents and were very familiar with the residents. Due to the nature of the call and the location, all available district units responded. Once on scene, officers proceeded in the front door and to the rear of the building. Although unable to gain access into the building, officers could hear banging and yelling coming from the second floor back hallway area. Officers proceeded to Apartment #2 where they were met by 2nd Floor resident/victim who pointed to the rear apartment door and informed officers that his downstairs neighbor was attempting to break in. Upon opening the door, officers immediately observed the male suspect standing outside the door holding a screwdriver in his hand. Officers quickly grabbed the suspect’s wrist and took control of the screwdriver. Additionally, officers then observed the handle of a knife in the suspect’s pocket and immediately removed an approximate 13" black-handled chef’s knife. Officers were informed by the victim that he and the suspect had been involved in an altercation the previous night and that the suspect was told to leave him alone. The victim stated a short time later, he heard pounding and yelling coming from the back door and when he went to see what or who it was, he observed what he believed to be the head of a screwdriver being worked between the door and door frame. The victim stated he then called 911. Officers observed damage to the door and door frame consistent with the victim’s statements.
As a result, suspect Anthony Wallace, 31, of Hyde Park was placed under arrest and with charged with Attempted Breaking and Entering Residence (Night). A black-handled chef's knife and flat head screwdriver were seized as evidence.
