Great Work Recognized: Commissioner’s Commendations Bestowed to Park Rangers, BPD Officers & Community Members

Commissioner’s Commendations: On October 14, 2014, a male suspect attacked and stabbed two Park Rangers during a confrontation on the Boston Common. Yesterday, on Tuesday, December 1, 2014, at District A-1 (Downtown), Commissioner Evans honored and recognized the Park Rangers Albert Hurd and James Lunnin by bestowing upon them Commissioner’s Commendations recognizing their courage and bravery in their efforts to subdue an armed suspect.  

Additionally, Commissioner Evans also recognized four Boston Police Officers and four community members whose quick decision making and selfless actions in the moments immediately after the attack most certainly saved lives. The following were honored for acts of bravery, courage and selflessness as it relates to actions taken on that fateful day:

  • Boston Police Officers: John Bates, Paul Dok, Edward MacPherson, Kit Tong and Keith Tolland.
  • Community Members: Madison Sloan, Ducarmel Dorime, Teal Fechtor-Pradines and Savanarnold Domond.

Said Commissioner Evans: “A lot to be thankful for in this incident. Thankful that the Rangers are recovering. Thankful for the response by our officers and especially thankful to the community members who got involved and most certainly saved lives as a result.”
