Great Work Recognized: Commissioner’s Commendations Awarded to District A-7 Officers


Today, Thursday, February 27, 2014, Commissioner’s Commendations were awarded to District A-7 Detectives Donald Stone and Joseph Trodella along with Officers Shana Cottone, Dominic DiMarzo, Jeremy Fitton, Paulo Pereira and Mark Hennessy for their actions in the following incident: On February 1, 2014, Officers Fitton, Pereira and Hennessy responded to a call for a fight with a person stabbed in the area of 49 Vallar Road in East Boston. On arrival, Officer Fitton was directed to a potential suspect entering a motor vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, they observed a significant amount of blood on the suspect’s clothes, but the suspect appeared to have no injuries. The suspect was immediately taken into custody. While securing the suspect, Officers Hennessy and Fitton were met by Officers Cottone and DiMarzo who responded to the area for an additional report of shots fired. Officers observed two individuals fleeing the scene and gave chase. Officer Pereira, who was on patrol in the area, observed the foot pursuit. Officer Pereira quickly subdued one of the armed suspects, recovered a firearm, and placed him under arrest. The second suspect was later found with a stab wound to the abdomen. While canvassing the area, Detectives Trodella and Stone discovered an additional firearm. A total of 3 illegal guns were recovered during this incident. For their courageous actions and ability to overcome the dangers that confronted them, we say thank you to the brave men and women of the BPD.
