Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Police Arrest Clumsy Armed Robbery Suspect

At about 1:25pm on Monday, March 17, 2014, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) made an onsite arrest of a suspect for armed robbery at 1575 Blue Hill Avenue.

Officers observed a black male wearing a black coat, white long sleeve shirt, khaki pants and blue sneakers running from the Burger King parking lot at 878 Cummings Hwy towards Fairway Street. At that time, officers also heard a female screaming, "He just robbed me." Officers immediately activated the emergency equipment (lights and sirens) on their department cruiser and requested backup as they pursued the suspect.  After a brief chase, the suspect tripped and fell to the ground as he tightly clutched his waist area.  Officers ordered the suspect to take his hand out of his pocket. The suspect ignored the officers' orders and got up and started running again towards Blue Hill Ave. and Babson St. After a second brief foot chase, the suspect once again fell to the ground.  Officers quickly caught up to the suspect and was able to place him in handcuffs. The officers reached into the suspect's right jacket pocket and retrieved what appeared to be a black handgun.

The victim positively identified the suspect as one of the individuals who robbed her of her property. Officers searched for the second suspect to no avail.

OTyshawn Pereira, 18, of Mattapan was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Assault and Battery on a Public Employee (Police Officer), Resisting Arrest, and an outstanding warrant for Buying, Receiving or Concealing Stolen Goods.
