Death Investigation in the area of 31 St. James Ave


At about 10:10am, on Friday, March 21, 2014, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a call for an individual who had fallen down an elevator shaft at 31 St. James Ave. On arrival, officers were directed to the basement of the building where an unconscious male victim was located. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notifications and the release of autopsy results by the Office of the Medical Examiner. 

The Boston Police Department – in association with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) - is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident. At this time, the preliminary investigation indicates that the death was accidental in nature.
