One Less Gun: Officers Arrest One and Recover Gun in Dorchester


At about 5:08 PM, Wednesday, April 2, 2014, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) along with officers from the Boston Housing Authority arrested one individual found carrying an illegal firearm in the area of 23 Morse Street in Dorchester

While on patrol, officers observed two unknown black males in the rear parking lot in the area of 156 Washington St. As officers drove through the area, the two males alerted another black male of the officer’s presence. As officers continued their patrol, they saw the three individuals again in the area of 23 Morse St. As officers approached, two of the individuals fled the area on foot while the third remained. The third individual then fled in a hurried pace toward Ronald St. The individual removed an item from his pocket and proceeded to cover the item with his sleeve. Upon seeing officers, the individual began to run. As he was running, the suspect began to lose balance causing his right sleeve to raise, displaying a firearm. The suspect then threw the firearm onto the train tracks. Following a brief pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. A search of the area enabled officers to recover a firearm.

Arrested was Michael Spence, 21, of Dorchester. Spence is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm - Second Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Carrying Firearm in a Public Way, Trespassing, and Armed Career Criminal Level 1.
