One Less Gun: Officers Arrest Two and Recover A Firearm in A Motor Vehicle in Dorchester

At about 1:50 PM, on Friday, May 16th, 2014 from District C-11 (Dorchester) received a radio call for a breaking and entering in progress at 119 Florida Street.

As officers were en route they were notified by a police dispatcher that one of the possible suspect's vehicle, a 2012 Silver Nissan Rogue, Illinois Registration, had fled toward Wrentham Street.  A second suspect vehicle described as a black Buick with MA registration, fled in an unknown direction. 

Officers, at the intersection of Florida and Ashmont Streets observed the Nissan described above make a right turn onto Bruce Street without signaling. Officers activated their emergency lights and siren and conducted a traffic stop on Bruce Street and Wrentham Street.  As officers approached the vehicle they observed a crowbar in plain view leaning against the passenger front seat. For officer’s safety, the driver was removed from the vehicle.  Upon further investigation of the vehicle, officers recovered a large 4” blade folding knife, 2 pairs of gloves, and a bag containing a black Taurus 1911 .45 cal semi-automatic firearm. 

A short distance away in the area of Semont Road and Dorchester Avenue additional officers observed a second vehicle matching the desription of the black colored Buick.  Further investigation revealed the operator did not have a license and was not authorized to use the vehicle. 

Officers arrested William R Cobb, 23, of Boston and Jason, B Monteiro, 30, Roslindale.  Cobb was charged with Dangerous Weapon Unlawfully Carried, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Operating Without a License.  Monteiro was charged with Operating After Revocation or Suspension and Using Motor Vehicle Without Authority.  

 Both are expected in Dorchester District Court on Monday.
