One Less Gun: One Firearm Recovered and Two Arrested in Roxbury

At about 7:44 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, members of the Citywide Bicycle Unit observed an illegally parked motor vehicle in the area of 23 Southwood Street in District B-2 (Roxbury). Officers approached the idling vehicle and observed two occupants in the front seats. Upon seeing the officers, both occupants began to make furtive gestures as if nervously trying to conceal items. Officers requested the operator’s driver’s license, and when the operator informed the officer he didn’t have one, the officers ordered the occupants to step out of the vehicle. Officers observed a large heavy object weighing down the front of the passenger’s pants, and believing he may be armed, the officer frisked the passenger. The frisk revealed a loaded black Cobra model CA-380 firearm in the passenger’s front pocket. When the passenger could not produce a License to Carry, he was placed under arrest.

The operator, 29-year-old Hulbert Desanges of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License. He was also cited for a Seatbelt Violation and for Possession of Less than One Ounce of Marijuana when a bag of green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was found in his pocket during the arrest.

The passenger, 31-year-old Yves Germain of Roxbury, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with Altered/Obliterated Serial Number, Carrying a Firearm without a License, and Carrying a Firearm in Public. Germain was also cited for a Seatbelt Violation.
