Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Officers “Ping” Phone and Foil Thief

At about 10:16 AM on Monday, June 2, 2014, officers and detectives from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering report in the area of 33 Rutland Square.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victims who reported that their home had been broken into between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM that same morning, and several valuables had been stolen. One of the victims was able to track his stolen Apple iPhone to the Massachusetts Avenue MBTA station a short distance away. Officers responded to that location and had the victim initiate the “Find My iPhone” system which sends out a loud ping through the phone. As officers walked down the subway platform, they were able to hear this ping emanating from a backpack belonging to the suspect. Upon further investigation, officers were able to locate and recover the stolen cell phone, as well as the other stolen items from this backpack.

Fifty-four-year-old Raymond Garcia of Boston was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering a Dwelling House in the Day and Buying/Receiving/Concealing Stolen Goods.
