At about 9:53 PM on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered two firearms in the area of 8 Almont Street in Mattapan.

While on patrol, officers observed a group of six males walking in the area of the above location. As officers continued their patrol, they recognized one of the individuals as a gang affiliate. As officers spoke to this individual, they observed another male wearing a white t-shirt and eyeglasses sitting on the stairs nearby. The officers then observed the male wearing the white t-shirt swing his arms and throw a black object which made a "thud" sound on the ground consistent with the sound of a heavy object. Officers ascended the stairs to investigate. As officers canvassed the area, they discovered a .45 caliber Glock 36 automatic firearm loaded with five rounds of ammunition. Upon seeing officers locate the firearm, the suspect immediately fled the area on foot. Following a brief foot chase during which the suspect unlawfully entered the residence of an elderly male, the suspect was placed under arrest. With K-9 assistance, officers searched the area previously occupied by the six males and recovered an additional loaded firearm determined to be a Rossi .38 Special Revolver. Upon further investigation, officers were able to locate and identify all six of the males seen in the area. The incident will be further investigated by detectives.

Officers arrested 26-year-old Andre Givens of Mattapan and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Entering without Breaking of a Residence, and Armed Career Criminal.
