One Less Gun: BPD Officers Confiscate Six Guns in the Department's Ongoing Efforts to Combat Gun Violence

Incident #1: At about 11:19 AM on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a vandalism in progress in the area of 360 Harvard Street in Dorchester. On arrival officers observed an individual matching the description of the suspect. As officers attempted to speak with the suspect, they observed an object weighing down the suspect’s right pocket. Upon seeing officers, the suspect stated that he had to return to his house. At this time officers unsuccessfully continued their attempts to speak with the suspect. The suspect fled from officers on foot. Following a brief foot chase in which officers lost sight of the suspect, witnesses alerted officers that the suspect had fled into a residence located at 363 Harvard Street. At this time, officers queried the residence and were able to positively identify the suspect. A search of the area allowed officers (with K-9 assistance) to recover a Hi-Standard .22 caliber 9 shot revolver loaded with three live rounds of ammunition.


Incident #2: At about 2:50 PM on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, members of the Citywide Drug Control Unit executed an arrest warrant in the area of 52 Everton Street in Dorchester as a result of the individual being charged with Unlawful Possession of a Sawed-Off Shotgun in a previous incident. As officers attempted to search for the individual, they detected a strong odor of marijuana. Officers then observed marijuana, a digital scale, plastic baggies, and a box of plastic bags inside one of the bedrooms. Believing a drug distribution business was being operated at this location, officers immediately froze the apartment pending a search warrant. Officers returned to the location at about 5:25 PM. As a result of the search warrant, officers were able to recover a Jennings Bryco .380 firearm loaded with 5 live rounds of ammunition, an EKOL 9MM firearm with an extended magazine, a .22 Remington Rifle, an Intrac Arms 12 gauge Eagle 96 Shotgun with a scope, as well as numerous illegal narcotics, drug paraphernalia, counterfeit US Currency as well as a large amount of US Currency. Officers will charge two individuals located at the scene with weapons and drug violations.


Incident #3: At about 12:26 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 members of the Youth Violence Strike Force recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 10 Lamartine Street Extension in Jamaica Plain.

While conducting an investigation, officers observed a large group of males loitering in the area of the above location. After speaking with the individuals, officers began to walk away from the group. Approximately thirty feet from the group, officers observed a black plastic bag which appeared to be in the shape of a firearm in a stairwell. Officers recovered Rossi revolver firearm loaded with five live rounds of ammunition.
