Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Officers Flush Two Suspects from Hiding and Recover One Illegal Firearm in Roxbury


At about 11:41 PM on Friday, August 29, 2014, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of Virginia and Monadnock Streets.

Upon arrival, officers observed at least two motor vehicles with ballistic damage parked in the area of Monadnock Street and were notified of several male suspects seen running through the rear of 54 Virginia Street.  Officers quickly responded to the area, and a search yielded two male suspects hiding under a silver SUV.  Upon further investigation, officers were able to recover an Ultrastar semi-automatic firearm in the vicinity. 

The first suspect, 20-year-old Derek Miranda of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, as well as charges for outstanding warrants. The second male suspect was identified and released.
