One Less Gun: Officers Arrest One and Recover Illegal Firearm in the Boston Common


At about 11:17 AM on Monday, September 22, 2014, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 75 Boylston Street (Boston Common) in the Downtown area.

While on foot patrol in the area of the above location due to recent citizen complaints regarding drug activity, larceny and robbery, officers observed a group of five individuals sitting in a circle on the grass. As officers continued their patrol, they were drawn to the group due to a strong odor of burnt marijuana. Further, one of the males was smoking what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette. At this time, officers observed the male suspect who had been smoking the cigarette appear to conceal an item under his right leg, officers, who were outnumbered five to three, began a pat frisk of the individual. During the frisk, officers felt a large metal object in the left breast pocket of the vest the suspect had been wearing. Officers recovered a black and silver FEG Hungarian 9 X 18 Makarov firearm loaded with seven live rounds of ammunition as well as a stolen credit card and placed the suspect under arrest. The remaining individuals were identified and released at the scene.

Officers arrested 19-year-old Ra’Quan Baker-Parham of Squantum and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Providing False Identification, and Receiving Stolen Property.
